Lot Essay

Born in the midst of the 1970s quartz-crisis, the reference 222 was launched to commemorate the 222nd anniversary of Vacheron Constantin. A response to the already existing Audemars Piguet Royal Oak and Patek Philippe Nautilus, the present reference was designed by the renowned watch designer Jörg Hysek with an ultra-thin angular case, an integrated bracelet and a two-part case with an ingenuous screw-down serrated bezel. Radically diverging from the already existing design notions of the brand, the wristwatch paved the way for the future sport timepieces of the manufacture.

Movement: The movement is ticking at the time of cataloguing; however, a service is recommended. Christie’s does not guarantee the future working of the movement. Serviced in 2014.
Case: In very good overall condition with light scratches and dents. The case back has surface wear. Has been previously polished many times. Glass, crown and screws replaced during service.
Dial: Very good. Replaced in 2014 during service. Hands replaced as well.
Bracelet: Has been previously retightened and polished many times. With scratches and dents. The bracelet cannot be opened, the watch would need to be sent to the manufacture to remove the screws.
Overall condition: Good. Completely serviced by Vacheron Constantin in 2014.
