The Santos model was created in 1904 at the request of its name sake, Alberto Santos-Dumont, who was an aviator and wanted a watch he could wear on his wrist while flying instead of a pocket watch. In 1994, for the 90th anniversary of the Santos Dumont watch, Cartier came out with a limited edition Santos in platinum with salmon dial and Breguet style hands. The present example is number 49 of 90.
