Lot Essay

Launched in 1921, the Tank Cintrée model was a variant of the original Tank. The curved shape is derived from the firm's tonneau series, made to fit around a wrist, the widened sides with the sharp edges and screwed lugs from the 1919 Tank. The elongated dial was visually enlarged and softened by the rounded chapter ring. The model was available in three different sizes.

The present watch is from the mid-size version, fitted with a cal. 8''' movement. The case is stamped EJ for Edmond Jaeger, it features hand-stamped numbers on the back of the upper lugs and the back of the case. The serial number on the back corresponds to the number punched inside the case, ‘694’, the last three digits of the case number. The movement is signed Cartier.
