Lot Essay

Made by Cyma for Hermès, the luxury retailer, this unusual belt buckle watch is a classic example of 1920s Art Deco design with bold black panels framed in ‘white’ silver. Vintage pieces retailed by Hermès are now highly sought after by collectors.

It has been suggested that such belt buckle watches were originally produced for use by golfers.

The Swiss watch manufacturer Cyma was founded by the brothers Joseph and Theodore Schwob in 1862. During the 1920s, Cyma was one of the biggest watch manufacturers in Europe employing 2,000 people. In 1929, the company received a first prize at the International Barcelona Exposition.

Hermès
The Company was founded in 1837 by Thierry Hermès in Paris and has maintained an impeccable reputation being a leader in the luxury goods sector for almost two centuries.
