Lot Essay

The present timepiece is one of the exceedingly rare examples of a Loehr Patent self-winding watch cased in 18K gold as opposed to the much more common silver variants. It is furthermore fitted with the typical folded bow.

August Ritter von Löhr, born in Vienna in 1847, was granted in 1878 a patent for a self-winding watch with a special simple over-winding prevention system and a special setting mechanism.
