Lot Essay

Offered in excellent overall condition, the present timepiece is part of a limited edition of only 125 pieces.

Nicolas Rieussec is known for inventing the first chronograph in 1821 and getting the patent for it in 1822. This chronograph was different from the conventional designs we often see today; it consisted of a rotating disc and ink-writing hand to record the time.

In 2008, Montblanc gave tribute to Rieussec by launching the first "Nicolas Rieussec Chronograph" that displayed the chronograph in its original fashion; using rotating discs for the elapsed seconds and minutes under fixed hands. In 2010, Montbanc launched a limited edition "Nicolas Rieussec Chronograph" like the current example. The model has the same chronograph rotating discs and features a mono-pusher design, where the button at 8 o'clock, start, stop, and resets the chronograph.
