Lot Essay
The Montblanc 4th of July pen is limited to only 56 examples and dedicated to the American Declaration of Independence in 1776, the present being no. 34.
56 representatives of the thirteen British American Colonies signed a joint declaration, among these Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin and John Adams.
A faceted 18K white gold filigree has been created for the cap and barrel. Every other facet is inlaid with white mother-of-pearl, the remainder are left transparent red, representing the red and white stripes on the American flag.
The barrel end and cap top are adorned with a row of white diamonds, reminiscent of the thirteen original states and first American flag, designed by Betsy Ross.
As a tribute to the spiritual father of the Declaration of Independence, Thomas Jefferson is portrayed on the platinum-plated 18K gold nib. Thirteen selected signatures are finely engraved into the facets of the pen and the clip.
Consigned by the original owner the present pen is furthermore preserved in like new condition and sold with the original Warranty and presentation box.
