OMEGA, GOLD-CAPPED TWO-TONE PIE-PAN DIAL CONSTELLATION, REF. CD 168.004
Also known as Constellation II, ref. CD 168.004 was launched in 1963, the first Constellation with the addition of a date function. It is distinguished by the redesigned 35.5 mm. case with recessed crown, slim downturned lugs and a screw back.
The present example is an attractive variant fitted with a steel case and gold-capped bezel and lugs and two-tone silvered dial pie-pan dial. It is powered by the calibre 561self-winding chronometer rated movement launched in 1959, with sweep seconds and date, the rotor revolving around the case as opposed to the “bumper” system of earlier versions.
Launched in 1952 the Constellation was named after the eight stars on its crest, representing the eight precision records set by Omega at the Kew Teddington and Geneva Observatory rating trials during the mid-20th century. The iconic engraving of the stars and the observatory are in homage to these results and to the incredible accuracy of the Constellation then and still today.
Another example of a ref. 168.004 with pie-pan dial is described and illustrated in Omega – A Journey Through Time by Marco Richon, p. 368, pl. 2850.

The luminous material to the indexes shows an attractive copper-coloured discoloration, matching the colour on the dauphine hands. Case: The case is in generally good overall condition. Strap: Unsigned, hardly any signs of wear. Buckle: Unsigned, in very good condition.
