Lot Essay

Reference 101.009 was launched in 1962, fitted with cal. 320, available in gold and stainless steel cases with facetted lugs. In 1966 it became ref. 145.009.

The present ref. 101.009 dates from 1963 as indicted by the numbering in its case back. It is preserved in attractive overall condition, with full proportions and a crisp gold mark.

In 1942, calibres 28.9 and 33.3 CHRO were replaced by two new calibres, the 27 CHRO with inute and 12 hour register, and the 27 CHRO C12 with minute and 12 hour register. At the time, Lémania’s C12 was the world’s smallest wrist-chronograph movement with a 12 hour counter. It was the forerunner of calibres 321 and 861 which equipped the NASA “flight qualified” Speedmasters which became in 1969 the world famous “moon watch”.

Between 1944 and 1945, the 27 CHRO and 27 CHRO C12 were improved among others with shock absorbers. More modifications followed in 1946 leading to a change of name, cal. 320 and 321. The two calibres were used in a variety of models and case materials.

A similar ref. 101.009 is illustrated in Omega – A Journey Through Time by Marco Richon, p. 544, pl. 3803, calibres 27 CHRO – 320 and 27 CRHO C12 – 321 are described and illustrated on p. 539.
