Lot Essay

The ‘Bugatti Type 370’ introduced in 2004 is the perfect example of Parmigiani's expansive creativity. Moving away from the traditions and designs of classical watch making, the ‘Bugatti Type 370’ showcases the first transversal movement.

As its name suggests, it was inspired by the famed Italian car manufacturer Bugatti. The visual accessibility at the heart of the Bugatti Type 370 is entirely original and truly unique. The transversal movement is spread between five plates, held by cross-arms arranged along a horizontal axis reminiscent of the construction of a Bugatti engine.

The dynamometric system - the movement's starting and winding systems, called for over three years of research and represents a world première. A ‘choke’, in the form of an instrument external to the watch, is used to action the two crowns placed beneath the case.
All components and plates were developed, machined, decorated, assembled and then cased up in the workshops of the Manufacture Parmigiani Fleurier.

The caliber PF370.01 10-day going movement has five plates, 37 jewels, two series-coupled barrels and power reserve indication on a rotating drum. The eight-part case in 18K white gold has six cambered and domed sapphire crystals, case back with dynamometric system, time-setting and movement winding crowns.

Parmigiani Fleurierwas founded by Michel Parmigiani in the town of Fleurier, Switzerland. Since 1996, Parmigiani has been making all timepieces in-house, reputed for both their high quality and uniqueness.
