Lot Essay

Consigned by the original owner and fresh to the market, this pink gold ref. 5004 is preserved in very good overall condition. It is accompanied by the original accessories, including the second solid pink gold case back, Certificate of Origin issued by the renowned retailer Sincere Watch Limited in Singapore and the wooden presentation box.

Reference 5004
Considered a modern classic, its features are inherited from some of Patek Philippe’s great historic references including the 3970, which was itself based on the legendary reference 2499. However, reference 5004 steps up a gear in terms of complication by boasting the highly complex split seconds function. Reference 5004 is roughly one millimetre larger than reference 3970 and also easily recognizable by its oversized split-seconds pusher in the crown.

One of Patek Philippe's rarest model with an approximate output of only 12 examples per year due to the technical complexity, it was launched in 1994 and available in all gold versions and in platinum. Ref. 5004 was discontinued in 2009 and replaced by two other split seconds chronograph models, both in platinum cases: the cushion-shaped reference 5951 released in 2010 with in-house calibre CHR 27-525 PS Q and reference 5204, released in March 2012 at the Basel Fair with in-house calibre CHR 29-535 PS Q.

Reference 5004 is illustrated in Patek Philippe Wristwatches, Martin Huber & Alan Banbery, second edition, p. 312.
