Lot Essay

The present timepiece is a fine example of the extremely rare white gold reference 3429 automatic, of which only 15 are known to the international market to date.

In reassuringly honest, unrestored condition, the Stern Frères dial exhibits the wonderful surface sheen that once removed, can never be replicated, the hard enamel signature and minute markers are beautifully raised. The white gold case by the Geneva master case maker Wenger still retains a visible hallmark on the band.

A feature which increases the special appeal of the reference 3429 is the ‘PP’ cast winding crown which is found only on a handful of models in the 1950s and early 1960s, including the iconic reference 2526.

Reference 3429
Patek Philippe commenced production of the reference 3429 in 1960. It is thought that less than 1000 pieces were produced in total in yellow gold, pink gold, white gold and platinum. To date, only around fifty examples in all metals have ever returned to the market.
