Lot Essay

The modern Daytona era begins with the launch of the first automatic steel chronographs, the Ref. 16520 in 1988 equipped with Cal. 4030, a hot-rodded Zenith El Primero chronograph movement. The Ref. 16528, resplendent in 18k yellow gold, was the flamboyant sibling of the first steel automatic Daytona.

At once, sporty and luxurious, the watch's case and bracelet were made in 18k yellow gold. What's also interesting for collectors here is the presence of an "Inverted 6" dial - the hours register at 6 o' clock displays an upside-down 6, a trait found on some of the early dials.
