Lot Essay

Preserved in like new condition the present Black Bay P01 is still retaining the protective stickers to its case and is sold with the original certificate and box.

The Black Bay P01 was inspired from a prototype wristwatch designed for the U.S Navy in the 1960s. In 1967, the manufacture was attempting to replace the Oyster Prince Submariner 7928 reference with a watch that needed to meet a set of specifications decreed by the American government. Nicknamed “Commando”, the project never came to fruition as the TUDOR reference 7928 was eventually adopted by the U.S Navy.

In 2019, Tudor decided to manufacture the P01 model, standing for prototype 1, to bring to life this hidden project. Featuring a very unusual “claw” locking bezel mechanism activated between the lugs, the model stays very true to the prototype’s design. With a case of 42 mm. in diameter, it offers high quality modern finishing and features the reliable calibre MT5612. Blending perfectly with the exploratory identity of the model are the traditional “snowflake” shaped hands.

The model was awared the “Challenge” prize at the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève in 2019.
