Lot Essay

The present ref. 7159/0 is preserved in very attractive overall condition, still retaining the original screw down crown and fixed blank bezel, the screw down pushers equivalent to those of its Rolex “sister” ref. 6265.

Tudor’s second Oyster Chronograph series, an icon of 1970s design, was launched in 1971 and remained in the catalogue until 1977. Nicknamed “Monte Carlo” by collectors because of their dials reminiscent of a casino roulette wheel, the watches were fitted with the manually-wound Valjoux cal. 234. Available with two different colour combinations, grey/black/orange and blue/white/orange, and two types of matching bezels, they were cased in Rolex Oyster cases with screw back and screw down crown and pushers.

The present watch, reference 7159/0, is the second model from the series, featuring a satin-finished steel bezel with engraved 500 units per hour tachymeter scale.

A similar ref. 7159/0 is illustrated and described in Alberto Isnardi's Tudor Anthology pp. 146-149.
