Lot Essay

This Hublot flyback chronograph cased in translucent red sapphire and with ‘camouflage’ styling is offered in exceptional condition with full set of accessories. Made in an edition of only 18 pieces in red sapphire, to the best of our knowledge, the present watch is the first example ever to be offered at international auction and provides the opportunity to obtain one of the most alluring and exclusive of Hublot’s timepieces without delay.

Crafted from a single block of red-coloured translucent sapphire crystal, the Unico Red Sapphire Camo is one of Hublot’s most extraordinary and ambitious creations. To obtain the red-coloured effect of the sapphire crystal, a new process was invented which creates transparent sapphires of uniform colour. It is achieved by melting iron with aluminum oxide at a temperature of between 2,000 and 2,050 degrees Celsius. The in-house automatic movement caliber HUB1242 is visible through the sapphire back and through the smoked transparent composite resin dial which also provides the best view of the movement through its open-worked design.

The camouflage decoration of the dial and bracelet is an original and attention-grabbing design. Superimposed on the dial are a series of different outlines which also provide a base for the numerals, indexes and subsidiary ring dials. The same design is vulcanized on the strap, a technology that Hublot pioneered for wristwatch manufacture for the first time in 2019.

This limited edition Hublot chronograph is a formidable technical masterpiece in every sense of the word and is without doubt one of the most coveted and rarely seen of Hublot’s superlative timepieces.
