Lot Essay

The Pagoda model was made in 1997 to commemorate the inauguration of Patek Philippe's new watchmaking center in Geneva. Inspired by a 1940’s model so called “Tour Eiffel”, the present watch is celebrated for its unusual case design, a curved rectangular shape with angular flared lugs and concave sides. Amongst graciously combining beauty and function, the Pagoda is a very rare model that can never be made again as the original tools created for its manufacture have been destroyed.

Reference 5500 was produced in a limited edition of 1100 examples in 18k yellow gold, 500 in 18k pink gold, 250 in 18k white gold and only 150 in platinum.
