Lot Essay

Released in 1997, the Aquanaut reference 5066 was the successor reference to the 5060, Patek Philippe's first timepiece fitted with a composite, 'tropical' strap. The inaugural reference 5060 was a limited edition to 1'000 examples and was a well-received model to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the celebrated Nautilus. A year later, the 5066, nearly identical to its successor was launched with the key distinction of a sapphire caseback. Water-resistant to 120 meters like the Nautilus, its main characteristics are the cushion-shaped case, the textured dial matching the 'tropical' strap and the octagonal bezel.

A very coveted model, the Aquanaut in steel with composite 'tropical' strap or steel Aquanaut bracelet remained in production until 2006.
