PATEK PHILIPPE, VERY ATTRACTIVE AND DESIRABLE WHITE GOLD 'CALATRAVA' WITH SWEEP CENTER SECONDS, REF. 570
Considered by many as the "perfect" mid-century dress watch, the Patek Philippe reference 570 is beloved by many collectors thanks to the large case diameter at 35.5 mm. and the sweep center seconds. The reference 570 is one of the longest produced references from the storied Maison with its production beginning in 1938 and ceasing in approximately 1972. Over the decades, the watch was offered in a myriad of configurations with variances in case metals, dial designs, and the location of seconds hand.
The present lot embodies Bauhaus design through its strive for perfection at functional minimalism. At a first glance, it may seem like a simple 'time-only' wristwatch. However, beauty is found within the minute details. A closer inspection of the dial reveals the decagonal-surfaced hand-finished indices as well as the raised enamel inscriptions, both laborious and expensive processes to manufacture. The watch is also very subtle and stealthy as it is made of white gold, allowing it to easily fly under-the-radar. In summation reference 570 embodies the charm of a vintage Patek Philippe wristwatch through the hand-finished elements which can only be appreciated when examined closely in the hand.
