Lot Essay

Heuer introduced its tide indication chronographs beginning in the 1950s, marketed under the names "Mareographe" and "Seafarer".

The Heuer Mareographe Ref. 2446SF was released in late 1968 with a compressor snap back case, an upgrade from the screwback case from previous generations in order to improve water resistance. The incorporation of the tide indicator and regatta countdown timer forever married the Heuer Mareographe to a life on the water.

Most commonly, these timepieces were made for Abercrombie & Fitch or Orvis with the retailer’s signature on the dial, however, the present timepiece’s rarity is further enhanced as it forgoes retail signatures.
