Originally designed in 1957 as a sports chronograph for racecar drivers, the success of the iconic Omega Speedmaster would not follow until it took a much different and more important a decade later. Omega underwent rigorous research and testing on the Speedmaster which paid off when NASA flight qualified the watch and made it an official piece of gear for astronauts. It was indeed, the first watch to be worn on the moon.

The watch is in good condition with moderate scratches and heavy nicks throughout the case. The lugs gave a heavy indentations. The bezel is in very good condition with light scratches a nick near the 250 marker. The bezel is a “DON” bezel (dot over ninety) and appears original to the watch. The crystal has light scratches and appears to be original, bearing the Omega engraving at the center. The dial is in good condition with light spotting and appears to have begun a slight “tropical” patina. The hands appear to have been have been relumed in the past and the chronograph hand is a later hand. The case back is in very good condition with moderate scratches. The engraving has lightly faded but remains clear and visible. The bracelet has heavy wear with scratches and nicks. The bracelet has heavy stretch. The end links are stamped “516”. The internal clasp is incorrect to the watch. The movement and pushers are in working order at the time of cataloging. The movement has not been tested for accuracy. A service is recommended given the age of the watch.
