Lot Essay

The present lot, a Rolex reference 9248 Imperial Prince pocket watch is a highly rare, attractive, and unusual timepiece. Featuring a hexagonal "pear" shaped 18k gold case, the keyless lever watch has a "doctor's" style dial configuration with strong emphasis on the oversized subsidiary seconds at 6 o'clock so doctors could easily ready and relay one's pulse. The case features both high polished and brushed finishing and is extremely well-preserved with crisp hallmarks given the age of the timepiece dating back to the late 1940s. Incredibly, the watch features a large and appropriately sized Ultra Prima Rolex movement with beautiful architecture and finishing alike. The caliber boasts hand-finished Côtes de Genève, swirling bridge anglage, star decoration, and black mirror-polishing finished to an impressive degree for the legendary manufacturer.
