Lot Essay

Commissioned in the 1990s for the Grand Mosque in Muscat by the Sultan Qaboos Bin Said al-Said, the present timepiece was created in a limited run of 20 examples and which features elegant enamel designs inspired by the Islamic artwork in the Grand Mosque in Muscat.

With specific interest, the present timepiece was presented by the Sultan Qaboos Bin Said al-Said as a gift to the former U.S. Ambassador to Oman. Sitting ambassadors are prohibited from receiving gifts from heads of state to the country they are accredited to, thus the watch was presented after his retirement in the mid 2000’s
