Lot Essay

The present fine and complicated watch is preserved in excellent overall condition. The substantial 57 millimeter gold case encloses the highly finished minute repeating movement with perpetual calendar, chronograph and moon phases.

Timepieces such as the present watch with complications including minute repeating and perpetual calendar were true marvels of the age, often taking months or even years to complete they cost a small fortune, then as now they were coveted trophies, the ownership of which conveyed an individual’s good taste and success to other cognoscenti.

The present watch has seven complications: minute repeater, perpetual calendar, date, days of the week, months, moon phases and chronograph. Combining great aesthetics and rare complications, it would make a superb addition to any watch collection.

The inside cae is engraved: St. Louis, MO, August 1, 1908
The cuette is engraved: Presented to Mr. C.C. Higbom, with Best Wishes of the Officers and Employees of The American Brake Company
