World-renowned Japanese architect Ando Tadao first collaborated with legendary jewellery house Bulgari in 2019. An inspired choice, Ando Tadao’s aesthetic simplicity is a perfect fit for Bulgari’s now emblematic Octo Finissimo wristwatch range. The special limited edition timepieces that Ando Tadao has designed are the most talked about and desirable timepieces so far introduced by Bulgari. The present watch, reference 103534, was launched in 2021 and is the third model to be produced in collaboration with Ando Tadao. Made in an edition of only 160 pieces worldwide, it is a masterclass in the contrast of colours, textures and the play of changing light on surfaces. Indeed, this wristwatch has such a visual impact that it captures the attention immediately as something very special. The case and bracelet is made in matte black ceramic with a sandblasted finish, the sapphire crystal display case back is engraved with Ando’s signature. Of sublime beauty, the deep blue dial is decorated with a radiating concentric circle pattern with a lacquered finish that is intended to recall the inky rich velvet blue of the night sky. At 5 o’clock is a yellow gold crescent new moon, called ‘Mikazuki’ in Japanese, it is a symbol of rebirth and the nature of passing time. Aesthetically, this watch successfully interprets Ando’s architectural style which is said to create a ‘Haiku’ effect, emphasizing nothingness and empty space to represent the contemplative beauty of simplicity.
