Patek Philippe released reference 3588 in 1970 as an "ultra-thin" or "extra-flat" automatic wristwatch, continuing its production until around 1980. Notably, it was the first Patek Philippe reference to contain the then new Jaeger-LeCoultre calibre 28-255, gaining the status as the flattest self-winding movement at the time.
