Lot Essay

The “Silver Snoopy Award” is a prestigious accolade within the NASA community. First presented in 1968, this award was part of the Manned Flight Awareness program whereby NASA astronauts selected companies and civilians who contributed to space travel. Omega was awarded the Silver Snoopy Award in 1970, when the Speedmaster wristwatch successfully helped time the launch back to earth during the Apollo 13 Crisis following an oxygen tank explosion that jeopardized the mission. Today, the “Silver Snoopy Award” continues to hold the same importance some forty years since its inception.

Launched in 2003, the present lot is the first “Silver Snoopy Award” Speedmaster made by Omega. Limited to 5,441 examples, the total count is extracted from the length of the Apollo 13 mission; 142 hours, 54 minutes, and 41 seconds. The timepiece has an Eyes on the Stars badge at the subsidiary seconds register and caseback.
