The present watch is amongst the most impressive tourbillon watches by Vacheron Constantin ever offered at auction.

According to the Archives of Vacheron Constantin, its movement was made in 1940. In 1947, the watch participated at the Category A timing contests at the Geneva Observatory, prepared and adjusted by the renowned precision adjuster Edmond Olivier. It then remained in Vacheron Constantin's stock until 1991 when it was encased in the present case and sold.

It is important to mention that the present watch combines all aspects of the highest quality, making it a superb example for the demanding collector: One of the most discerning complications, the tourbillon regulator, fitted in a state of the art gold case with hidden hinges and the excellent overall condition.

Precision timekeeping has always been vital to the scientific community, and in 1873, the first annual chronometer competition was held at the Geneva Astronomical Observatory. Rigorous quantitative internationally recognized testing standards were established. The testing, which initially lasted for 45 days, consisted of placing the watches in various positions and temperature conditions. The most precise precision timekeepers, such as the present watch, were awarded honours for the year.

Competition timepieces were taken care of by a small number of gifted and prominent precision adjusters such as C. Batifolier, M. Favre, J. Golay-Audemars, F. Modoux, E. Olivier, H. Wehrli and A. Zibach. The movement of the present watch had been prepared by Edmond Olivier.
