About the artist

Nick Gentry works with contributed artefacts and materials, sourced directly from members of the public. The conceptual basis of this work explores the areas where reality meets illusion, while drawing on references from consumer waste, to pop culture and found art. Bios is a celebration of life through the merge of technology and nature. DNA can be at the centre of both of these worlds. By reusing scientific by-products (such as x-ray film and electrical wiring), the elements mirror nature through the use of patterns and shapes (including branches, leaves, flowers, birds, bees and insects), creating a micro-ecosystem.

The Sculptures are a hand painted decorative finish with a tough exterior glaze over the top. However like any decorative painted exterior finish it would need annual maintenance to keep it looking like new. Inside they will last indefinitely but outside they will suffer just like another garden sculpture from the harshness of the seasons. Many previous trail pieces have lived outside but have needed annual repair and as the years pass this starts to become more complex and less satisfactory for the owners. We recommend that for a long and healthy life your sculpture lives indoors.
