The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
This striking large-scale mirror is in generally good overall condition.
The backboards, which form the outer/green-ground frame are of later date, probably late 19th century, the peripheral carving probably contemporary with the main frame and re-mounted. The sectional plates probably also replaced in the late 19th century when the frame was rebacked, with some chipping to edges and foxing, loss and discolouration to silvering. The green ground with some flaking and a little grubby.
There is the expected slight shrinkage, movement and cracking to the frame throughout, consistent with age and there are the minor losses and repairs to the carving.
Traces of apparently inactive, historic woodworm to carved elements.
Overall minor knocks, chips, scratches and wear consistent with age and use.
In generally good decorative and structural condition and ready to use.
