The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
Inevitable dents, marks and scratches consistent with age and handling with surface dirt to the crevices around the corpus figure.
The corpus figure cast separately from the cross and hollowed out to the reverse; it is affixed to the cross at the head and arms but loose at the feet.
Wear to the patina to the high points consistent with handling.
Traces of gilding visible on the corpus figure.
Small repair to the underside of the left tip of the cross.
A small section of the bottom of the cross has broken off in the past; this piece has been moved up so that it overlaps with the rest of the cross and a piece of bronze – probably formerly part of the staff (see below) – has been rivetted to the reverse to re—attach this section of the cross.
Formerly attached to a staff at the base for use in procession, now broken off.
