This large and impressive bureau plat is in good overall condition. It has been cleaned and repolished at sometime and the present finish has a rich dark tone.
The dustboard beneath the central drawer has been replaced at some time.
The mounts apparently 18th century, possibly regilt, the chutes veneered underneath suggesting it was conceived without them.
There is some evidence of woodworm to the carcase timbers, although apparently inactive, we would suggest the desk should be treated as a precaution.
Minor old chips, losses and repairs to the veneers throughout.
Overall minor knocks, chips, scratches and wear consistent with age and use.
In generally good decorative and structural condition and ready to use.
