This rare survival, exemplifies the tradition of Genoese 'lacca' in combination with a distinctly Genoese form. A related Genoese 'lacca' bureau-bookcase, with similar blue rococo decoration on a white ground, was sold Property from the Estate of the late Giuseppe Rossi, Sotheby's, London, 10 Mar 1999, lot 193 (£89,500); a further commode with predominantly blue decoration on a white ground was sold Christie's, New York, 21 October 2010, lot 152 ($23,750).
