Lot Essay

Rossi recorded these fauteuils as by Meunier, suggesting that there may have been a stamp visible at the time of aquisition which has been subsequently damaged/hidden during reupholstery. The design of these fauteuils is consistent with Meunier's known oeuvre, supporting this attribution. Although the maîtrise date for Etienne Meunier is not recorded it is known that he was based in the rue de Clery and was active during the reign of Louis XV until the early 1770s.
