Lot Essay

Cineraria of this type were decorated with a variety of scenes, some mythological and some from daily life. The scene here depicts a nobleman on horseback, flanked by attendants wearing conical caps and cloaks. Cf. B. Bandinelli and A. Giuliano, Les Etrusques et L'Italie Avant Rome, Paris, 1973, p.308, fig. 357 for an urn with a rider on horseback.
