Typed letter signed (“Leonard”) to Marianne Ihlen ("My dear Marianne"), [Montreal] 28 January 1961.

One page, 280 x 216mm.

An agitated letter from the dead of the Canadian winter, with an update on The Favorite Game: “My dear Marianne, What has happened to you? You have always been able to talk to me. Tell me why this long silence.” Though the television work has not panned out as expected, “an American house is seriously considering my novel.” He closes, “I want to hear about you, whatever plans you have made. I think I know what has happened but I want you to tell me.” Cohen's letter reflects the difficulties of a complex love triangle: Marianne was still married at this time to Axel Jensen, the father of her son, though he was involved with an American painter, Patricia Amlin. Marianne and Jensen would divorce the following year.
