After graduating from college, a young Andy Warhol moved to New York City and actively pursued work as a fashion illustrator. His first commission for Glamour was to illustrate an article entitled “success is a job in New York” and he meant it, working for publications such as Harper's Bazaar, Vogue, and The New York Times. It was through this hybrid of fashion with advertising, his fine art and commercial projects, that he started on the path towards Pop. Warhol combined his love of art, fashion, and celebrity in 1969 with the founding of Interview magazine. Leading fashion designers Giorgio Armani and Yves Saint Laurent turned up in its pages, as did many of the models featured in this sale. We are proud to present this curated selection of works which illuminate Warhol’s lifelong connection with the world of fashion.
