1986 - Born out of chance, the first production of Massetto was in 1986. Neighbouring Ornellaia, the vineyard for Massetto was chosen to grow Merlot grapes due to the blue clay terroir of Masseto Hill. Classified as an experimental bottle, the 1986 vintage contains the first fruits of the newly planted Merlot vineyard. Labelled as 'Ornellaia Merlot Toscana Vino de Tavola'. Masseto is the wine that was not meant to exist, but one that unleashed a liquid kaleidoscope - complex, silky and subtle flavours imparted from French oak.
