This painting is deeply influenced by the work of Quentin Metsys (1466-1530); it can be compared with a very similar composition published by Max Jakob Friedländer (1867-1958), which he gave to a follower of the artist (see M. J. Friedländer, Early Netherlandish Painting, New York-Washington, 1971, VII, p. 68, n°69).
