Lot Essay

Hanken genga are a type of original drawing created for promotional, publishing, or merchandising purposes rather than for direct use in the animated production. Often featuring specially prepared images of popular characters, they were produced for licensed products, promotional materials, and other commercial applications. Compared with regular production cels or genga (original drawings), hanken genga were created in very smaller quantities and are therefore less commonly encountered. Their distinctive artwork, limited availability, and connection to the commercial history of a series make them particularly popular among collectors.
