Lot Essay

A bronze oil lamp which is nearly identical to the present lot – albeit with a different final figure - is in the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford (accession number WA1888.CDEF.B1098; see Bode, loc. cit.). That bronze is associated with the sculptor Severo da Ravenna, who seems to have divided his artistic career between Padua, Ferrara and Ravenna.
