The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.

This painting is lined and secure on a keyed stretcher. The surface has been flattened due to the lining process. There is a small areas of lifting in the sky at upper right. Inspection in natural light shows some abrasion and restorations along the extreme edges. Discolored restoration is visible in the skin tones, the sheet of music and scattered in the sky. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals areas of strengthening in the foliage at upper left and in the sitter’s dress. The varnish fluoresces in some areas, likely due to a partial cleaning.
