This painting has a wax lining and is secure on a keyed stretcher. Inspection in natural light shows losses in the background at upper center with associated lifting. Abrasions are visible over the sitter’s decolletage and upper part of her green dress. There is a vertical line of discolored restoration running through the sitter’s chest, measuring 3 inches in length. Another small area of restoration can be seen in her chest just to the left of this line. Further discolored restoration is visible in the sitter’s proper left arm and in the background along the sitter’s proper right arm. Inspection under ultraviolet light confirms the aforementioned restorations and further reveals broad strokes of restoration in the background, especially in the upper fourth of the canvas. There is strengthening over the sundial at lower left and over the plinth at lower right, especially along the extreme edges. There are some further touches of strengthening in the sitter’s hair.
