The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
The canvas, stretcher and attachments appear to be in generally good condition. There are scattered fibrous accretions, most visible to the extreme lower left vertical edge, the brown horse's hair and the right figure's proper left arm, presumably packing material residue. There are some pinpoint paint losses to the lower vertical edges and upper left corner. There is a lineair abrasion with associated pinpoint paint loss to the back of the right horse. There are some scattered media marks. When examined under ultraviolet light, there is a minor spot to the extreme lower left corner that fluoresces in a manner consistent with retouching. Subject to the foregoing, it is our view that the work appears to be in generally good condition.
