This composition of flowers and fruit is almost like a botanical drawing. The varieties are precisely rendered and include, from left to right and top to bottom: narcissus, tuberose, sweet peas, primrose, lilac, honeysuckle, anemone, sloe, pomegranate, buttercup, jasmine, clematis, etc. The Tuscan artist Girolamo Pini (active in the 17th century) specialised in this type of composition, showing isolated flowers against a dark background, often with their description added in a painted cartouche at the bottom of the composition.

Cette composition amoncelant différentes fleurs et fruits tient presque de la planche botanique. On identifie ainsi des variétés très précisément rendues avec, entre autres, de gauche à droite et de haut en bas : un narcisse, une tubéreuse, des pois de senteur, une primevère, du lilas, du chèvrefeuille, une anémone, une prunelle, une grenade, une renoncule, une morelle de faux jasmin, une clématite, ...
L’artiste toscan Girolamo Pini (actif au XVIIe siècle) s’était fait une spécialité de ce type de composition, exposant sur fond sombre des fleurs isolées, avec cependant leur descriptif ajouté dans un cartouche peint en bas de la composition.

Le tableau présente très bien à la lumière naturelle, avec tous les détails des fruits et des fleurs magnifiquement préservés.

La toile n'est pas rentoilée. Elle est maintenue sous tension sur un châssis et reste stable.

À la lumière naturelle, on observe un fin réseau de craquelures sur la surface de la peinture, qui n'affecte pas la lisibilité du tableau. Ces craquelures sont plus prononcées sur les bords de la composition, où la pression de la barre du châssis a affecté la surface de la toile. La peinture reste stable dans l'ensemble. Il y a une très petite éraflure dans la peinture sous la pomme au centre, le long du bord inférieur de la composition, qui mesure approx. 1 cm. Il y a également un petit manque sur le côté gauche de la composition à côté de la fleur bleue.

L'examen sous lumière UV confirme l'excellent état des fruits et des fleurs. On constate quelques traces de retouches dans les fonds autour de certaines fleurs, notamment autour de la rose sur le bord gauche et autour du narcisse dans le coin supérieur gauche. Il y a quelques comblements du réseau de craquelures susmentionné, notamment le long du bord inférieur de la composition. L'ensemble est recouvert d'un vernis uniforme qui peut cacher d'autres retouches dans les fonds.

The painting presents very well in natural light, with all the details of the fruit and flowers beautifully preserved.

The canvas is unlined, it is held under tension on a stretcher and remains stable.

In natural light, we see a fine pattern of craquelure across the paint surface, this does not affect the legibility of the painting. This is most pronounced to the edges of the composition where the pressure of the stretcher bar has affected the canvas surface. The paint remains stable overall. There is a very small scratch in the paintwork below the apple in the centre along the bottom edge of the composition which measures approximately 1 cm. There is also a small loss to the left-hand side of the composition beside the blue flower.

Examination under UV light confirms the fruit and flowers to be an excellent condition. There is some evidence to retouching in the background around some of the flowers notably around the rose to the left-hand edge and around the narcissist in the top left-hand corner. There is some infill to the aforementioned craquelure, notably along the lower edge of the composition. The whole is under an even varnish, which may hide some further retouching in the background.
