The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
With some minor wear to enamels and rubbing to gilt; some firing flaws in the making; typical tiny chips to the applied flowers and foliage; small firing lines and other minor flaws in the making; further details enumerated below.
The bird seller- Impressed 9. Restoration to parts of his hat, to his nose tip, to the black strap holding the wooden bird box, to parts of his pink jacket, to a few corners of the wooden bird box and its lower right perch, to the square birdcage. There were no greens accessible to XRF test.
The ballad seller- Impressed 6. Restoration to her hat and one side of the kerchief framing her face, to her left forearm and ballad. Some old overpaint to her upper back. Tiny chips to hat brim at reverse. No chromium was found in the green enamels during XRF testing.
The wax and wafer seller- Incised 5. Restoration to the back right flap of her jacket hem; a tiny nick to the object in her hand; otherwise in nice condition. There were no greens accessible to XRF test.
The male Quaker- Impressed 2. Restoration to his hat and to the lower righthand side of his cloak at the reverse; otherwise in good order. No chromium was found in the green enamels during XRF testing.
The female Quaker- Impressed 1. Scattered restored chips to the folds of her dress, shawl and lacy cuff; a nick to her tip of her nose; otherwise in good order. Very low level of Chromium were found in the greens- possibly later decorated.
