The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.

The painting is executed on canvas which has been relined and is held under adequate tension. Examination in natural light reveals thinning to the upper paint glazes in the sky, with associated strengthening.

Examination under UV confirms the above and reveals at least two campaigns of strengthening to the sky and elsewhere in the composition, including to the foreground and some minor contours in the figures and animals. A partially removed varnish precludes further investigation but the presence of additional restoration cannot be precluded.
