The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.

Le tableau est peint sur une toile ayant fait l'objet d'un rentoilage ancien. Il est maintenu sur un large châssis, à clefs.
Le rentoilage a été un peu fort et a pu tasser la matière picturale par endroits. Le tableau préserve une jolie matière dans les cheveux et les mains du modèle. Le tableau possède un réseau de craquelures un peu prononcé dans la partie inférieure et accentué par un ancien vernis blanchâtre, très sec.
A l'oeil nu, la peinture est encrassée et on constate différentes anciennes retouches ayant viré dans le miroir, les yeux, les cheveux et le vêtement du modèle.
L'examen à la lumière UV révèle ces retouches anciennes disséminées sur l'ensemble de la composition. Le tableau est sous un vernis fluorescent uniforme, épais, pouvant dissimuler d'autres restaurations antérieures.

The canvas has been subject to relining. It is held under tension on a keyed stretcher. The relining process has slightly flattened some of the upper paint layers. The painting retains a lovely texture in the model’s hair and hands.
In natural light, a fairly pronounced network of craquelure can be seen in the lower half of the painting, accentuated by an old, whitish varnish that is very dry. Scattered retouching that has discoloured with age can be see in the mirror, the eyes, the hair and the model’s clothing. The paint surface carries some dirt.
Examination under UV light confirms the above; there is scattered retouching throughout the composition. The painting is covered with a thick, uniform varnish, which may hide earlier restorations.
