Lot Essay

This rare and charming head of a stag counts among four early studies by Barye acquired by the prolific Susse foundry prior to his debut at the Paris Salon in 1830. An edited bronze edition of this trophy, cast without the oak wreath, appears at the Château de Dampierre, a Baroque estate subsequently redesigned by Honoré Théodoric d'Albert de Luynes, a grand collectionneur of Barye's work.
