The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.

The painting is executed on canvas which has been relined and is held under adequate tension. Examination in natural light reveals thinning to the upper paint glazes in the sky, with associated strengthening, and to the darker tones of the foreground.

Examination under UV confirms the above and reveals at least two campaigns of extensive strengthening to the sky and details throughout the composition. A line of retouching centre-right is presumably to an old repaired horizontal tear of circa 20 cm, An old varnish precludes further investigation but the presence of additional restoration cannot be precluded.
